MARITIME PIRACY DENSITY MAPPING
This project involved creating a density map of maritime piracy incidents by using QGIS's graphical modeler to automate complex workflows. By developing a processing model, I mapped piracy incidents over a global hexagonal grid, utilizing QGIS’s modeler to streamline the analysis and make it reproducible for future data updates.
Starting with a point dataset of global piracy incidents, I set up a graphical model to automate the mapping process, creating hexagonal grids and aggregating piracy data within these grids.
This model was designed for adaptability, allowing easy parameter adjustments for different grid sizes and enabling batch processing for diverse inputs. This project highlights the power of automated workflows in GIS, which significantly reduce manual effort and improve efficiency for large datasets.
