RELATIVE ELEVATION MODELS

Relative Elevation Models (REMs) provide a unique perspective on river systems, mapping elevation relative to the river surface to reveal geomorphological details often hidden in satellite imagery. These models work particularly well with high-resolution LiDAR-derived digital elevation models, especially for large, slow-moving, meandering rivers where subtle hydrogeomorphic features like terraces, oxbow lakes, and meander scars are accentuated.
